Amelia Jay exists to make home, money and everyday life simpler. That only works if you can trust what you read here. This Editorial Policy explains how we choose topics, research and review articles, keep them current and correct mistakes.
Our editorial standards
Every article we publish aims to be:
- Useful: focused on the real question you asked, with clear steps, checklists and examples you can act on today.
- Accurate: based on careful research and reviewed before publication.
- Honest: realistic about costs, time and effort, including when a cheaper or simpler option is the better choice.
- Safe: including safety warnings where they matter, such as never mixing bleach with ammonia or vinegar, or cooking chicken to an internal temperature of 165°F.
- Clear: written in plain language, with short paragraphs and no jargon.
How we choose topics
We start with the questions busy households actually ask: how to organize a small kitchen, how often to wash sheets, how to lower a winter electric bill, what to cook on a tight budget. We prioritize topics where clear, practical guidance can save you time, money or stress.
How we research articles
Our research process includes:
- Reviewing reputable sources, such as government agencies, manufacturer instructions, utility providers and established consumer resources.
- Following mainstream safety guidance, including USDA food safety recommendations for cooking temperatures and storage.
- Presenting costs as typical ranges rather than exact prices, because costs vary by region, retailer and time.
- Testing steps for practicality, so methods, timings and checklists make sense in a real home.
We do not invent statistics, quotes, experts or studies. If we cannot support a claim, we leave it out.
How articles are reviewed
Every article is reviewed by an editor before it is published. The editor checks the content for accuracy, clarity, safety and usefulness, confirms that cost figures are presented as reasonable ranges, and makes sure money, insurance and legal topics include a reminder to compare options or consult a licensed professional.
Use of AI tools
We may use AI tools to help with research, outlining and first drafts. AI assisted content is always reviewed, fact checked and edited by a human editor before publication, and our editor is responsible for the final article. We do not publish AI generated content without review.
How we keep content up to date
Prices, products and guidance change, so we revisit our articles regularly. When we make a meaningful update, such as revising cost ranges, adding new steps or changing a recommendation, we update the “Updated” date stamp shown on the article. That date tells you when the content was last reviewed and refreshed.
Minor edits, such as fixing a typo or a broken link, may not change the date.
Corrections
We work hard to get things right, but mistakes can happen. When we find or are told about an error:
- We review the issue promptly and verify the correct information.
- We correct the article as soon as possible.
- For significant factual corrections, we add a short note to the article explaining what was changed.
If you spot something that looks wrong or out of date, please tell us through our Contact page. Include the article title and what you believe needs to change.
Independence from advertisers
Amelia Jay is supported by advertising, including Google AdSense. Advertisers have no influence over what we write. They do not choose our topics, see articles before publication or approve our recommendations, and we do not accept payment for favorable coverage.
